Building a Killer Creative Team
Your marketing plan can’t survive without creative assets. There. We said it! Adding visual elements that are relevant and captivating can make or break your campaign, and we’re here to share what to expect and how to get the best outcome. In a world where captivating your target audience is essential, collaboration holds the key to creating the perfect visuals. By leveraging the collective creativity of a cohesive creative team, you’re creating the potential for truly exceptional marketing campaigns.
But what does it take to truly understand the power of collaboration and harness its benefits? In this article, we will delve into the secrets behind exceptional creative assets for marketing campaigns and explore how you can build a creative dream team, foster effective communication, and nurture a culture of collaboration.
It’s important to build a team that not only shares your vision but also brings their unique perspectives to the table. Each team member brings their own set of experiences, expertise, and ideas, which, when combined, can lead to exceptional results. These differences can truly elevate your creative assets to new heights.
Collaboration can’t happen without effective communication. Don’t be afraid to share your thoughts, ideas, and concerns. Without being honest and open, you run the risk of ending up with creative assets that aren’t at all what you were going for, and that’s disappointing for everyone. Prep and pre-production calls are so important for giving everyone the opportunity to express their opinions. At Poppy, we work best when we can vibe with a team. We love our clients and value what they have to say–at the end of the day, they know their brand best!
Building a Creative Dream Team
First and foremost, having a crystal clear vision of your next marketing campaign will help you find exactly who you need for your creative team.
A few key players:
Photographer/Videographer
Art Director
Stylist
Producer
Graphic Designer
We realize that this sounds like a lot of players. It is, but for a good reason. Each of these players, regardless of if you decide to hire them or not, has something special to bring to the table. We can’t in good faith say that some are more important than others–it’s up to you as a brand to determine what the most important things are.
At Poppy, we recommend this team of 5 to make sure that everyone has the ability to focus fully on what they’re hired to do. When a photographer is trying to style and make sure lunch is being delivered on time, they aren’t able to focus on their primary purpose which is photography. Having a stylist to set the scene and a producer to help manage shoot logistics will help keep the team focused and performing at their best.
Where to Start
Choosing a team can feel daunting, but social media is a great place to start. Look for individuals or creative teams that have a portfolio that you admire. Don’t be afraid to reach out even if you don’t see exactly what you’re envisioning in their portfolio. As creatives, we get super excited when a client comes to us with a new idea or vision. With the right team, we can make it happen.
Managing Your Team
Once you have a team assembled, having regular pre-production meetings is the best way to make sure everyone is on the same page. These also allow the team to get to know one another and get a feel for the different working styles. Come to these meetings ready to hit the ground running, and take this opportunity to express exactly what you’re hoping to accomplish with the campaign. You can also share your inspiration and any must-haves for the project.
Working as a Team
After any photo/video elements are done, the materials can be passed along to a graphic designer to help bring it all together. This person helps get your assets ready for their respective channels. Because the format varies between all platforms, you’ll need several versions to cover all the bases.
Once your campaign goes live, you can sit back and relax and watch the magic unfold. We can [almost] guarantee that your campaign will feel more put together and strategic when you work with the creative expertise of a whole team rather than just flying solo.
